Use Brick For Your Retaining Wall

Retaining walls can be a good way to deal with the erosion of a hill. They can also be used as decorative features in your yard or garden. When it comes to retaining walls, you have several options. Most retaining walls are made of some kind of masonry. If you are interested in a masonry retaining wall, you may want to talk to a contractor about going with a brick retaining wall. There are several reasons to go with brick.

Durability

One reason to go with a brick wall is that they are very durable. They can take the weather, being banged into, and just generally existing. That durability also means that their maintenance level is relatively low. However, you do need to check the wall to make sure that the grout or mortar is still in place in between the bricks because missing mortar will allow water to get into the wall, which can cause problems. That can be a relatively easy fix, though, as long as you hire the right masonry contractor.

Beauty

A brick wall can be a very beautiful wall. One reason for that is that bricks come in different sizes and colors. That will let your contractor create a pattern in your wall that will match the aesthetic of your house. You will need to make sure that you talk to the contractor about what kind of pattern you want to have in your wall, because the height and length of the wall will determine what kind of pattern the contractor can create. There are programs which can help design the pattern to make sure that all the bricks are installed in the right place. Keep in mind that the more complex or involved the pattern is, the harder it will be to read from a distance.

Resistance

Bricks are resistant to a lot of things. They aren't going to rot and insects aren't going to destroy them. That means that the wall is going to be able to last a long time, even if it's in the middle of a place where rot or insects could get into the wall easily.

If you are going to set up a retaining wall, talk to a masonry contractor. They can talk to you about the various options open to you. They will also be able to tell you where the best place to build the wall is, and how big it should be in order to function well.
